Project Brief
Composite Ballistic Shield
Bachelor's thesis focused on designing, manufacturing, and validating a lightweight ballistic shield using composite materials and STF-informed protection logic.
Scope
- Project owner
- Design and fabrication
- Physical validation
Outcome
Delivered a fabricated prototype that passed firearms testing, with patent work in progress.
Engineering Problem
Reduce mass without losing ballistic credibility. The project had to produce a protection concept that could move beyond theory and survive physical validation.
Method
- Defined a layered material stack using kevlar, carbon fiber, composite core strategy, and STF-informed protection logic.
- Converted the concept into a fabricated shield article rather than stopping at paper design.
- Prepared the prototype for live validation through firearms testing.
Proof
- 4 engineered protection layers
- 1 full prototype build
- Live firearms test: pass
Engineering Value
This project demonstrates the ability to connect materials reasoning, fabrication work, and real validation into a single defendable engineering output.
